Our Mission

To provide dignified housing and support services to persons experiencing chronic homelessness and accompany guests as they transition to long-term, stable housing.

Our Vision

To end chronic homelessness in South Bend by ensuring those who have been on the streets the longest have access to permanent housing.

Our History

A Public Health Crisis Emerges

With the onset of the COVID-19 shutdown in the spring of 2020, coupled with the closure of a weather amnesty shelter, our journey began. During a long, hot summer, 100+ people were consigned to live in tents around downtown South Bend including a parking lot near our Catholic Worker community.

An Incredible Opportunity Evolves

A long-time supporter of Our Lady of the Road made a generous donation, which was matched by another friend of the Catholic Worker.

The funding allowed 80+ people to move from tents to motel rooms by the end of September 2020.

The opportunity evolved into the ‘Motels4Now’ (M4N) program, St. Joseph County’s first low-barrier intake center. M4N later evolved into a new non-profit organization, New Day Intake Center.
